Webinar – Mediation for Technology Transfer and R&D Disputes
Thursday, 24 June 2021
09:00am – 10:00am (EST) / 15:00pm – 16:00pm (CET)
For many companies, intellectual property (IP) is being exploited on an increasingly international level and in various forms of collaborative arrangements, such as licenses, technology transfer and R&D agreements. As a consequence, cross-border disputes are likely to emerge and effective dispute prevention and resolution which take into account the business needs in the area of R&D are crucial. In today’s complex global situation, mediation has proved highly beneficial to prevent and manage international disputes, providing businesses with flexible, confidential and less costly procedures without disrupting commercial relationships.
In 2020, the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center (WIPO Center) experienced a 24% increase in its mediation and arbitration caseload. WIPO cases involved multinationals, SMEs, universities and research centers, collecting societies and individuals primarily from Europe (34%), Asia (33%), North America (22%), and Latin America (10%). Parties used WIPO Online Case Administration Tools to facilitate their mediation and arbitration proceedings, essential for the prevailing travel restrictions and social distancing.
In this webinar, you will be joined by international experts – including experienced IP mediators and representatives from the WIPO Center – to discover the features of WIPO mediation to resolve IP and R&D disputes. The webinar will also highlight the WIPO Center’s recent experience using technology for meetings and hearings and online case management tools as well as model R&D agreements.
